Team-Taught and/or Stacked Courses

GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF SECTION 202.15 AND 202.170 FOR COURSES WHICH ARE TEAM-TAUGHT AND/OR STACKED

TEAM-TAUGHT COURSES
Counting of Courses

  • If a Member is responsible for 50% or more of a team-taught course, that Member shall count this as a full course in determining the number of evaluations to submit to satisfy Section 202.15. For example, if a Member taught four full courses, was responsible for 50% of each of two team-taught courses and 75% of another team-taught course, the Member would count seven courses for Section 202.150 and would need to evaluate four courses for the purpose of personnel decisions. Or, if a Member taught four full courses, was responsible for 50% of each of two team-taught courses and 20% of another team-taught course, the Member would count six courses for Section 202.150 and would need to evaluate three courses for the purpose of personnel decisions.

Evaluation by Students
Students will evaluate only those members who were responsible for 50% or more of the course. There would be, therefore, no more than two student evaluations involved in a team-taught course. When two Members do divide responsibility equally, 50% to each, there will be separate evaluations for each Member.

STACKED COURSES

  • For the purpose of these protocols, STACKED COURSES are courses which have different course numbers, often different titles, and different course descriptions and expectations, but which are taught by the same instructor in the same time frame, quite commonly in the same room. One of the most frequently occurring examples is a studio course in the Art Department, in which students from the 1xxx to the 5xxx levels all study, e.g., printmaking, in the same time frame. The projects are individualized, and the expectations are quite different at the various levels, but for workload purposes, the sections are all counted as one to determine contact hours.

Counting of Courses
Each set of stacked courses, taught as described above, shall count as a single course for the purpose of determining the number of courses necessary to evaluate for personnel decisions as per Section 202.150.

Number of Student Evaluations
The students enrolled at all levels in a set of stacked classes will be surveyed as if they were all enrolled in a single course. Where the call number is required to be completed on the forms, the call number for only one of the sections will be used; all students will use that number.
